Student support

The University offers extensive support to all students connected with the University, through Student Services and the Chaplaincy.

Student Services

Acting as the first port of call for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, Student Services is tasked with helping students at St Andrews achieve what they deserve: the best university experience possible. Student Services also manages communication with anyone who is concerned about a student at the University, from parents and guardians to those in the local community and external agencies.

Student Services coordinates four main functions, each committed to monitoring and enhancing the student experience.

Student experience

St Andrews has a diverse student community, and Student Services staff are committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to get the most from their time at St Andrews — whether they are here for one semester, or for their whole degree. Advice and support

Staff in Student Services can offer advice on any query: paying bills, obtaining an academic transcript, seeking advice on visas, making a complaint, personal issues, or any other student matter. The team can also advise and support parents, guardians and others outside the University who have questions about a student or University life. Discipline

Wardennial service

Each University hall of residence is home to a warden and their team of assistant wardens. These teams are there to support the students in the residence, to foster the community and to provide emergency cover for all students overnight and through weekends. Meet with Student Services

The front door for Student Services is the "ASC" — the Advice and Support Centre, located at 79 North Street, which gives information on any student matter and can organise appointments with Student Services. Some members of the Student Services are based at Eden Court, which is located on The Scores. The Chaplaincy

Students are also welcome to contact the University Chaplain, Donald MacEwan, and his team, who offer support to the student community. This includes:

  • one-to-one confidential meetings where students can discuss issues.
  • sympathetic support during a crisis. 
  • visits to any student who is in hospital. 
  • support in emotional and spiritual issues.
  • space to search for the meaning of life. 
  • an opportunity for students to explore their faith or lack of faith. 

The Chaplaincy is situated in Mansefield, opposite the Student's Association. It is used by a variety of students and staff for quiet and reflection, for various meetings, for meeting with friends and for social activities. There is a meeting and worship place for various major faiths. It is used in particular by Christian, Muslim and Jewish societies, and has a Muslim prayer room.
